In the past, people do not want to wear braces as it makes them look like a nerd or a geek. It has been associated with geeks and therefore anyone dreads to wear braces then. But in this modern era, wearing braces have become a fashion statement. It seems that those who wear braces are those thay have money. So people would have braces to be in the crowd.
What are these braces anyway? Dental braces are devices needed to align the position of the teeth with regard to the person's bite. Braces are a way of moving the teeth or straightening the teeth to improve their appearance and how they work. These also help in the long term health of the teeth, gums and jaw joints. Braces spread the biting pressure over all the teeth.
Braces are often used to correct malocclusions or the misalignment of teeth or the incorrect relation between the teeth of the two dental arches. Malocclusions have been categorized in 3 different classes. Examples of malocclusions are underbites, overbites, cross bites, open bites, crooked teeth and crowded teeth. Dental braces are usually used with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws or to help shape the teeth and jaws. Braces are usually used in children and teenagers when it is still easy to mold the teeth. However, adults are already starting to use them to either correct their teeth or to just be
in the crowd.
Since most people have crooked or crowded teeth, braces can be of great help. They not only improve the appearance of the teeth, but also the way the teeth bite. While having the braces on makes cleaning the teeth difficult, but in the long run, when the braces are removed, cleaning the teeth will be a breeze.
Some patients have upper teeth that stick out which make them look like a rat or a rabbit. With the help of dental braces, these unsightly prominent front teeth, which are more likely to be damaged, can be moved back into line. In some patients, the way their upper and lower jaws meet can make the teeth look unsightly and will lead to an incorrect bite. If this happens, it can put strain on the jaw muscles and can cause jaw and joint problems. Some even develop headache because of this. With the help of dental braces, the bite can be corrected and the strain can be reduced.
Dental braces are now becoming more and more affordable with the increasing number of dentists. Also, there are different kinds of dental braces that people can choose from. The most common is the silver or stainless braces. There are also gold braces, clear or white braces, lingual braces and titanium braces. All you need to do is take your pick. The only thing to remember is that all braces work the same. Some use braces as a fashion statement so they prefer to use the more expensive or the more noticeable one. But they still give the same results.
